Superdome To Get Makeover
03-05-2009 8:57 AM
(New Orleans, LA) -- The Louisiana Superdome has been marked for renovations designed to restore the massive structure to its original luster. Work has already begun on replacement of the entire outer layer of the stadium, which opened in 1975. More than 400-thousand square feet of aluminum siding is being replaced with champagne bronze panels to help the stadium regain its original look. Some of the original panels were damaged by Hurricane Katrina. New windows are also being installed to allow views from the newly-renovated club lounges. Officials say the new outer layer is being built with the latest technology and will eliminate infiltration of water and air, and help better insulate the building to reduce energy costs. The current renovations are priced at 19-million dollars -- seven-million dollarsbeing covered by FEMA. All renovation work is targeted for completion by April 2010.
